Logging on to computer-based tools
Most new computers these days come with an electronic calendaring time management system that provides a diary and address book facility. Microsoft Outlook is one of the most popular for Windows-based machines but others are available – some of which make best use of diary based time management techniques to link in with your email system and automatically update your email contacts, and you can schedule appointments via email.
Outlook provides a calendar, address book, task list, and email system all in one application. You can change the layout to suit the way you work, schedule in reminders, and book in appointments.
Online time management and calendaring tools are also available, usually with your web-based email system that synchronizes with your computer or hand-held device, enabling you to access your calendar when you’re not at your desk. My favorite time management tips for using these tools is that you can share your calendar across the web, choosing which events you share and who has access to them.
Plaxo, an online address book, is a convenient and time-saving way to keep up-to-date and manage and backup your contact system online. Plaxo automatically keeps you updated if your friends’ and colleagues’ details change. You choose what information you share and who sees it and you can have different access for personal and business contacts. Plaxo includes a calendar (which automatically updates from Outlook).
